School Administrator

Provides overall direction for the development and maintenance of educational programs consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of our private Montessori school. Provides academic leadership and sets academic standards and goals. Oversees the daily operations of the school. Responsible for staff development and supervision and effective management of staff and resources. Establishes new school policies and procedures and sets staff and student schedules. Creates a positive, safe and orderly learning environment. Maintains knowledge of policies, procedures, rules and regulations regarding all school programs, administration, personnel matters, budget development and administration.

Responsible for curriculum development and oversight. Monitors the consistency of curriculum within grade levels. Designs and implements a process for curriculum review and revision. Selects and approves books, materials and teaching resources. Approves teachers’ course outlines and reviews teachers’ teaching plans and materials. Leads meetings with teachers. Remains current on educational research, Montessori, California Content Standards and Core Knowledge Curriculum trends and developments.

Responsible for management of students and staff matters, including meeting with parents and teachers to resolve student social, emotional, behavioral and academic issues; resolving parent and student issues and concerns and staff issues and complaints.

Responsible for staff recruiting, interviewing, hiring and termination of professional and non-professional staff.

Leads workshops for teachers on various topics, including classroom management, organization, evaluation, writing. Responsible for mentoring teachers, observation, evaluation and providing feedback for teachers.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of work experience teaching at the K-8 level. California Teaching or CBEST credential required. Appropriate Montessori teaching experience; knowledge of current educational research and trends in elementary and middle school curriculum and instruction.
