Middle School 7th & 8th Grade Home / Programs / Middle School Where Independence Blossoms Choosing the right middle school is an important step in your child’s learning journey. The middle school years are a time of great change. Our Montessori Middle School program provides our students with a caring and structured place for them to develop as individuals. With our guidance, students are prepared to take on both academic and personal challenges with strength and resilience. Learn More Middle School Curriculum Language Arts Our students continue to develop their strong writing skills. They write stories, reports, and essays. We help them through every step—from thinking of ideas, writing drafts, to editing, and finding opportunities to improve. With help from their teachers, they grow more confident and proud of their writing. Literature We want our students to love reading! They read full-length literature, not just excerpts of classics. They explore books like The Count of Monte Cristo and plays by Shakespeare. The focus on quality literature and writing in various works allows each student to develop a love of reading and elevate their skills. Math Our math program covers pre-algebra. It can also include both algebra and geometry, depending on the student’s pace. Using a mix of traditional resources and Montessori materials, our students can progress as far as their abilities allow. Whether solving equations or working on math problems, we encourage our students to stretch their thinking and build a strong math foundation. Science Science in middle school continues to be hands-on and exploratory. Our focus is on chemistry and physics with lab work. Our students think like real scientists, asking questions and finding answers through research and experiments. History & Geography Our students study the modern world, learning about and from U.S. and European history. Our students explore the foundations of society, such as the U.S. Constitution. They also examine major social transformations, including revolutions and wars. Geography is woven into this study to give our students a global understanding of events. Why LePort for Middle School? A Place for Growth & Development The early teen years are a time of great change. Children start asking questions about the world and becoming more independent. At the same time, they go through strong emotions and physical changes that can feel overwhelming. We guide them as they grow. We help them learn how to handle these changes and make positive life choices. High Standards in a Caring Space We hold every student to high academic and behavioral standards while also providing a warm, respectful atmosphere. We challenge them to keep learning and become their best selves. Our goal is to help students grow into confident, strong young people who can handle the changes of growing up with confidence. Mentoring Our students begin to seek guidance from adults who can help them as they grow. Our teachers do more than just teach—they act as mentors and role models, offering wisdom and support. They respect each student’s growing independence while helping them make good decisions. Meaningful Community Work Our students want to feel independent and find meaning in what they do. At our school, they have many chances to help in ways that matter. They might help teach gym classes for younger children, create a school magazine, or plan a community event. Participating in meaningful work develops confidence as they become young adults. Goal Setting At the start of each year, students, parents, and teachers meet to set goals. Students choose both academic and personal goals. Throughout the year, we check in to see how they are doing and make sure they stay on track. Whether it’s improving school work, building friendships, or exploring hobbies, we help students reach their goals step by step. Learning Beyond the Classroom Field trips give our students a chance to explore, try new things, and become more independent. They take two overnight trips during the year. One trip is a weeklong visit to Washington D.C., where students explore important historical places. The other is all about the outdoors and may include camping or nature adventures. Preparing for High School & Beyond Our students learn academic skills and build confidence. This helps them do well in any high school setting, whether it is a private school, a magnet program, or a public school. Starting in 7th grade, our school counselors work with students and their families to find the right high school. They also guide families through the application process.
