LePort Montessori in Solana Beach

At LePort Montessori, we provide a warm and engaging environment for children. Following Dr. Maria Montessori’s methods, our mission is to help children build essential skills, develop positive habits, and foster a love of learning. Since 2015, we have proudly served the Solana Beach community with high quality daycare, preschool, and elementary education. Through mixed-age classrooms, uninterrupted work time, and Montessori materials, we help children learn how to think, explore new things, and understand the world. By focusing on personal growth along with academics, we prepare them for success in school and beyond.

Purposeful Learning Spaces

Our classrooms are calm, clean, and filled with child-sized materials that are as beautiful as they are functional. Each room is made for the age of the children. Toddler rooms are cozy and safe, with in-room toilets for toilet learning. Primary classrooms are filled with a variety of age-appropriate materials. Elementary spaces include kitchens, libraries, and dedicated spaces for science and art.

Trained Teachers

We know that great teachers make a big difference in a child’s learning. We hire strong lead teachers in all of our schools, primarily those with credentials from the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) or the American Montessori Society (AMS). They create a calm space where their students can do their best. They work hard to make sure every child feels confident, supported, and excited about learning new things.

A History of Innovation

Our school was founded by Dr. Peter LePort. While in medical school, Dr. LePort learned about Dr. Maria Montessori and her ideas for teaching. When his children were old enough for school, he enrolled them in Montessori programs. However, he was disappointed with how the schools were run. He also saw how little the teachers were supported. Dr. LePort created LePort Montessori as a place where children could learn to think for themselves, develop strong academic skills, and become independent.

Partnerships with Families

We love working with parents to help every child thrive. They are welcome to visit and see what is happening in our classrooms. They can also come to special events and get messages from teachers to stay updated. We also host Parent Info Evenings during the year to share important news and talk about how we can work together to support each child’s growth. Our Virtual Parenting Talks help them learn more about Montessori and provide ideas for home.

From the Head of School

Sarah Lee

Welcome to beautiful Solana Beach, where great families meet great educational opportunities at LePort Montessori!

Have you asked yourself lately what it is you want from your child’s early educational experience? If you are considering a Montessori education investment, you can expect an individualized approach to learning, where your child will enjoy a tailor-made experience from his or her earliest years right through completion of our Elementary program. Our program builds independence through support of the child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. We strive to “follow the child” as each experience establishes a strong self-efficacy.

Our teachers are more akin to classroom guides, carefully crafting daily activities and engaging work, all the while observing each student’s progress in every area of the Montessori curriculum. The prepared environment, which extends beyond the classroom to outdoor experiences as well, offers a wealth of fun and challenging “jobs” for each and every child — each and every day. Students eagerly anticipate the beginning of each school day, knowing that something new and exciting lies on the morning horizon.

The Solana Beach campus was designed with your child in mind. Here, students will work in comfortable, clean, and organized spaces indoors, and open, fun domains outdoors where they can seamlessly transition to additional educational and inviting options. Safety is a high priority here, and our teacher-to-student ratio reflects our commitment to maintaining “watchful eyes” over our precious children.

I would love the opportunity to meet you, show you our Montessori environments and didactic materials as we discuss the Montessori pedagogy, which will allow you to see for yourself the commitment LePort Montessori Solana Beach is making toward creating a top-tier learning environment for children of all ages. Thank you for considering our school. We would be honored to partner with you.

See you soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I enroll my child in preschool?

LePort Montessori in Solana Beach offers child care for children as young as 18 months old. The Montessori Method gives children the structure they need to make the most of their early years. It helps them develop motor and social skills while learning reading, math, and more. Our students grow into confident young learners who are excited to explore the world around them.

What makes Montessori different from other daycare curriculums?

Children choose work they are interested in and learn at a pace that suits them, all with guidance from our teachers. Our classrooms are calm and organized. They create the perfect space for learning and independence. We are unlike traditional daycare, which often includes more free play. We provide structured, engaging tasks that build creativity and essential skills. We also teach our students how to be kind, work together, and make good choices without the use of rewards or punishments.

What are the hours at LePort Montessori in Solana Beach?

We know that it is important for you to have reliable child care. We are open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, providing you with the flexibility you need. Whether you are juggling work, appointments, or other events, you can be sure that your child is in a safe place.

What safety measures are in place at your school?

You will notice our security steps as soon as you walk into our school. We allow entry only to our families, staff, and registered visitors. All visitors must check in at the front desk, show ID, and wear a visitor badge while they are in the school. Only approved adults are allowed to pick up children in our care.

What is the difference between daycare and Montessori preschool?

People often use the words “daycare” and “preschool” to mean the same thing. However, we are more than just a daycare. Our program helps children become independent and learn about themselves through fun, guided activities that match their age. Our caring Montessori-trained teachers support children in thinking, making friends, and getting ready for what’s next. We give our students a strong start for a lifetime of learning and success.

What after-school activities do you offer?

We provide learning and enrichment after the school day is over. Our activities include dance, soccer, and music. Learn more.

Do you provide lunch?

Parents pack lunch and a snack for their child.

What are the qualifications for teachers at LePort Montessori in Solana Beach?

Most of our lead teachers have their undergraduate degree, and have finished training with the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) or the American Montessori Society (AMS). Some have other training and experience to make sure they meet our standards. All of our teachers pass background checks and provide us with references and necessary certificates. They receive training in safety, like CPR, first aid, and how to help with allergies. They know how to stay calm and keep children safe in any situation. Our teachers stay up to date on best practices in the classroom, as well as participate in trainings such as child abuse prevention and behavior management.

Your Child’s Educational Journey Begins Here.

Our school provides a supportive space where every child thrives. We can’t wait to meet your family, get to know your child, and welcome you to our school community!
