Today, I attended Watch Me Work Wednesday, an opportunity at LePort to observe your child in the classroom for 45 minutes. This is my third Watch Me Work Wednesday, and I feel moved to add to my previous review.
Due to the departure of two of the Primary teachers last Fall 2018, Primary 1 and Primary 2 were combined. Today, there is one class, led by Ms. Michelle with her assistants, Ms. Rosalba, Ms. Lydia, and Ms. Alejandra.
Like other parents, I was concerned about the merger of Primary 1 and Primary 2 into one class. It meant that my 5-year-old and 3-year-old would be in the same class. While a few families left, we stayed.
Why? Because LePort Montessori Lomita is a true Montessori school. It is child-centered and child-led. Despite the merger, it does not change the fact that LePort Lomita offers an exceptional Montessori education and has teachers and staff who truly care about the children.
And today's Watch Me Work Wednesday reaffirmed this. I felt so proud as a parent - proud of Ms. Michelle and the work she has done. She and Ms. Rosalba, Ms. Lydia, and Ms. Alejandra seamlessly navigated the classroom, teaching lessons and helping children.
And, I felt so proud of the students. I saw young children (3- to 5-year-olds) focused on lessons, working individually or with others. They worked on map puzzles and created small books of stenciled shapes. They buttoned and laced and screwed in small bolts into wood. They trimmed and watered plants. They wrote letters and sentences and read books. They wrote numbers and completed addition booklets. They unrolled rugs and stacked large blocks. They did yoga. They prepared their snacks and put their dishes away.
All these things and more were done by 3- to 5-year-olds. Despite their young age, they are responsible, well-behaved, and focused. They respect each other and clean up after themselves. There was no yelling or shouting by the adults or children. The classroom was abuzz with activity and chatter. Everyone was excited to learn.
I am proud that my children go to LePort Montessori Lomita. Their love for learning, character, and good habits are a testament to the Montessori education they have received. Thank you, Ms. Michelle, Ms. Rosalba, and Ms. Lydia, for your kindness and hard work. Everything you do shows in the children's words, actions, and manners.
